Closeouts

A closeout draws a line under the business day. It stamps a batch with everything sold since the last closeout, broken down by register, so the numbers on your screen match the money in the drawer and in your bank.

Automatic closeouts

Every location closes out on its own each night. Close out the day automatically is on by default, at 5:00am. Change the time with Day closes at. Pick a time after you close and before you open, such as 3am for a bar that closes at 2am.

Go to Settings›Locations and open the location.

Go to Locations, under Manage, open the location and click Save changes when you're done.

The phone app can't change the closeout time. Use the Register or the web.

Closeouts follow the location's time zone. A location created on the Register takes its time zone from the tablet, so make sure the tablet's is right before you start. See Set up your Register. On the web you can set it with Timezone on the location.

Close out now

To close out early, for example at the end of a shift, stamp a batch for everything since the last closeout. The nightly closeout still runs at its usual time.

Open Closeouts and tap Close out now.

The web can't close out early. Use the Register.

Closing out needs the Manage Settings permission.

Reading a closeout

Open Closeouts and tap a batch to see it in full.

Go to Closeouts, under Point of sale. The list also has a Card column, and calls Payout Deposit. Click a batch to see it in full, including Drawer Δ for each register.

Tap Closeouts on the POS tab. Each batch shows its number, net sales, the dates it covers, its orders, its deposit and how many registers took sales. Tap a batch to see it in full.

On every device you can filter to Automatic or Manual closeouts.

ColumnWhat it shows
BatchThe closeout's number
WindowThe time it covers, from the last closeout to this one
RegistersHow many registers took sales. Tap a batch to see each register on its own.
OrdersThe number of sales
NetSales after discounts, not counting tax, tips or card surcharges. Refunds are listed separately on the batch.
CashCash taken. Open the batch to see the drawer change, which is cash less cash refunds, to count against.

When you get paid

Choose your deposit schedule in Deposits.

Go to Settings›Payments and pick an option under Deposits.

Go to Register settings, under Point of sale, and pick an option under Deposits. Choosing At closeout asks you to confirm, because it switches your Stripe payout schedule to manual.

The phone app can't change the deposit schedule. Use the Register or the web.

OptionWhen money arrives
Automatic daily (Stripe)Stripe sends your balance on its own daily schedule.
At closeoutYour deposit is sent when each day closes out, so its timing is predictable and it's stamped on the batch.

With At closeout, each batch's Payout column shows the deposit that matches that day's sales.

Note

Card payments take time to settle at Stripe before they can be paid out, so a deposit may not include the last few hours of sales. Those go out with a later deposit.
