PIN sign-in and auto-lock
With PIN sign-in, everyone who uses the Register taps in with their own code. Each sale is recorded against the person who rang it up, and each person only sees what their permissions allow.
Turn on PIN sign-in
PIN sign-in turns on when you add your first employee. You can do that in any of these places:
- In the Register's setup wizard, by turning on Multiple people will use this register
- On the Register, under Settings›Employees
- On the web, at Manage → Employees
The first person you add is the admin. If you add them under Employees on the Register, you see PIN sign-in is now on and you're already signed in as them.
Until you add someone, there are no PINs and whoever uses the Register has full access.
When nobody is signed in, the Register shows Enter your PIN, with the time, the date, your business name and the location.
Type your PIN. A 6-digit PIN signs you in as soon as you enter the last digit. For a 4- or 5-digit PIN, tap Sign in. A wrong PIN shows Incorrect PIN and clears the dots.
Once you're in, your name shows at the top right of the screen.
Lock the Register
Tap the lock button next to your name at the top of the screen. The PIN screen comes back and the next person signs in. A sale in progress stays where it was.
Auto-lock
To lock the Register after it's been left alone, go to Settings›Auto-lock and pick how long it waits.
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Never | The Register stays unlocked until someone taps the lock button. This is the default. |
| 1m to 30m | The Register locks after that many minutes with nobody touching the screen |
Auto-lock waits while a card payment is in progress, so the Register never locks while a customer is at the reader. Changing auto-lock needs the Manage Settings permission. It only appears once PIN sign-in is on.
Prompts when you sign in
Start your shift? If you're set up to track time, and you're not clocked in, the Register asks you to clock in. Tap Clock in, or Not now if you're only looking something up. You can clock in later from the top of the screen.
Open your day? If you can perform services and you're not on today's schedule, the Register offers to make you bookable for the rest of the day:
- Set Available until. It's filled in with your location's closing time, if that's still ahead.
- Tap Open my day. Clients can book you from now until that time.
Tap Not now to skip it. It asks again the next time you sign in, unless you tick Don't ask me again today. If you're also tracking time, this comes after you clock in.
PINs on the web and phone app
The web register at paybrain.io/pos doesn't need a PIN, but staff can sign in to have sales, tips and discounts credited to them. Click Sign in employee, pick your name under Who is on the register? and type the same PIN you use on the Register.
To hand over, click your name and choose Switch employee or Sign out.
The Paybrain app works the same way. Tap Sign in at the top of the POS tab, pick your name under Who is on the register? and enter your PIN. Tap your name to Switch employee or Sign out.
