Paybrain vs Clover
The Paybrain Register kit is $999, with no monthly fee and no contract, and it comes with AI purchase orders, AI promotion ideas and promo texts at 5¢ each. A Clover Station Duo is $1,899 plus $84.95 a month in software ($3,058 over three years), or $180 a month on a 36-month subscription you can't cancel. Clover's card rate is lower (2.3% + 10¢ vs 3.0% + 10¢), so Paybrain costs less below about $12,136 a month in card sales; above that, Clover's lower rate wins. Both offer a cash discount program; with it on at 3%, nearly all of the card fee is covered on either, so Clover's monthly fee decides it and Paybrain costs less below about $10,619 a month.
Clover prices as of October 2026, as listed on clover.com (see Sources). Banks and resellers may price differently.

How it works and the rules behind it: What is dual pricing?
Three years, all in
Hardware bought outright, 36 months of software, and the percentage part of in-person processing. Both charge 10¢ a payment, so that part is the same and left out.

Questions people ask
How much does a Clover POS cost?
On clover.com, as of October 2026: Clover Station Duo is $1,899, Station Solo $1,799, Mini $849, Flex $749, Compact $349 and Go $199. Software plans for a full register run $84.95 a month (Retail Growth) or $89.95 (Restaurant Growth), with in-person rates of 2.3% + 10¢. Clover is also sold through banks and resellers, whose prices can differ.
Is Paybrain cheaper than Clover?
Up front and month to month, yes: the Paybrain Register kit is $999 with no monthly fee, against $1,899 plus $84.95 a month for a Clover Station Duo on Retail Growth. Clover's in-person rate is lower (2.3% + 10¢ vs 3.0% + 10¢), so once card sales pass about $12,136 a month, Clover's processing savings outweigh its monthly fee.
Do Clover and Paybrain both offer a cash discount (dual pricing)?
Yes. Clover's cash discount is built in and self-serve: 1% to 5% (4% by default), and its help pages say your processing partner may contact you about rates when you turn it on. Clover also offers a 3% surcharge on credit cards through Clover support. Paybrain's card pricing posts card prices up to 4% above your cash prices on the Register, the app's register and the web register. At 3% on a $25 sale, Paybrain costs you $0.12 and Clover Retail Growth $0.08 ahead, before Clover's $84.95 monthly fee.
Does Clover require a contract?
Clover's site says hardware subscriptions are non-cancelable for their term, its current $450 statement credit requires a 3-year contract, and that contract terms and termination fees vary by the bank or reseller you buy from. Paybrain has no contract and no monthly fee.
What processing rate does Clover charge?
As of October 2026, clover.com lists 2.3% + 10¢ in person on its Growth plans, 2.5% + 10¢ on Essentials and 2.6% + 10¢ on Starter, and 3.5% + 10¢ for typed-in payments. Paybrain is 3.0% + 10¢ in person and 3.2% + 35¢ online, with no monthly fee.
Where is Clover the better choice?
Clover has a much wider hardware lineup (handhelds, kitchen displays, a kiosk), offline payments for up to 7 days, an app market with hundreds of apps, 24/7 support, and a lower in-person rate. Busy shops with high card volume, or that need those devices or apps, may be better served by Clover.
